Happiness.

There are a lot of things I enjoy that are not so popular. But they make me happy. As I mentioned in my last entry, I am trying to make a conscious effort to live in the moment, do what brings me joy, and the heck with how it makes me seem. In the end, all that matters is happiness. If you are not happy, you're doing something wrong, or you're letting the world get you down, so you're still doing something wrong. Almost everyone has a few things that just are downright awesome for them, whether it be junk food, guilty pleasure soap operas, overrated music from the nineties, crappy "C" movies, whatever. So it's a low-quality cheap comedy with bad acting and worse plot. So what? If it makes you laugh and forget about the sucky stuff in life, enjoy it with no reservation. A lot of the time I think people think they will be happier if they do things or like things that their peers like, because fitting in seems like a natural way to be happy - everyone else likes it. But fitting in will only make you happy if you enjoy only what others enjoy, no more or less. If you are in a group of people who all like the same thing, you are very lucky. Cherish it. Or you are in a group of people who pretend to all like the same thing. Therefore, not one of you is really happy, but you are just going along with the rest. Break free! You may discover people with similar interests, but that will never mean you have to like all the same things. Savor your differences! I encourage you to enjoy everything that you really enjoy, in the privacy of your own delight if you are alone in your preferences, or with friends (who genuinely enjoy it too) that you have been fortunate enough to meet. Treasure, relish, bask, wallow in your happiness. Feast upon real joy. Because all that really matters is that you are happy. Of course, do not place your needs for joy above others; do not abandon all of society; do not embrace hedonism as your only philosophy. Just take moments alone and remember how it feels to be truly happy, what makes you feel that way, and how you arrive at that singular experience. So really, don't worry if you are enjoying total crap, if you are watching pathetic excuses for talent prance across a screen in a mockery of real life, if you are rocking out to tired, overused melodies, if you are sobbing over a badly written romance novel, if you are joining in the croons of a well-hated pop star, if you are just flicking glances at the pretty person you don't know and will never meet, if you are dancing seductively for your own reflection, if you are dressing comfortably and hideously, if you are obsessing over a tabloid-fodder celebrity, if you are playing with toddler toys, if you are deafening your fellow drivers at a red light with your untrained voice, if you are having fun doing it, it is worth it. So yeah. Go have fun.
